Dog Block Quilt for Baby Colton

I have been waiting over 10 years since I became obsessed with quilting to start this quilt.  It will be for my first grandchild who is due to arrive this summer.  My daughter Kelly chose the pattern from my "someday" notebook of patterns from quilt magazines.  This one comes from the Sept./Oct. 2011 issue of Quiltmaker. It's called "Let Sleeping Dogs Lie" and was designed by Denise Russert of Madison, Wisconsin.  These are the first two dog blocks to represent Kelly's dogs Boomer and Wolfie.  The block on the left with the swirls is supposed to represent Wolfie's wavy fur seen in the photo below.  Boomer, a Great Dane is the block on the right.  All of our family dogs will be represented including the ones Kelly and her sister grew up with.  The browns, blacks and grays for the other dogs should look better since they will have much more contrast to the background.  Target completion date is June 7th for the Very Hungry Caterpillar themed baby shower.
